Bio

I am a practicing artist and maker, predominantly creating within ceramics. My first real experience working with clay was at Dundee and Angus college where I completed a Higher National certificate in Jewellery and Ceramics. I then progressed onto Grays School of Art in 2018, only to have my degree interrupted by the pandemic in 2020. I decided to take a break from education and approach established ceramic artists to learn in a more intimate one on one teaching through work experience and apprenticing opportunities. This time spent working alongside artists had allowed me to develop my voice within functional tableware. However, my practice now explores a multitude of ideas through social and political ideologies, gender and the body. As I know embracing failure is an important part of my creative process. Understanding that every object/painting/ceramic I make is also not just one thing. It is a body of work with hundreds of hours of failures and experimentation. It is days, weeks and months of frustration and moments of pure gratification. I believe ceramics is a very positive practice and process. It keeps me very driven and always looking forward. During my time at Cub Creek residency I want to explore more of a sculptural approach to my practice while continuing to make domestic ware.
